Region
AWS region is a geographical area. Each region consist of 2 or more availability zones. All the regions are completely independent. Any Amazon RDS activity you initiate (for example, creating database instances or listing available database instances) runs only in your current default AWS Region.
Amazon RDS supports a special AWS Region called AWS GovCloud (US) that is designed to allow US government agencies and customers to move more sensitive workloads into the cloud.
Availability Zone
An Availability Zone is simply a data center. Each Availability Zones belong to a single region. And each Availability Zones is isolated. But, in a region, each are connected through low-latency links.
Edge Location
Edge Locations are aws endpoints, which are used for caching contents. Typically edge location consists of CloudFront and Amazon's Content Delivery Network (CDN). There are many more edge locations all around the world, which keeps services faster.
